Changing pots on semi hollow bass.

I am getting an ASB140 Ibanez and will be changing the tone pot. How do you go around changing the pots on a semi hollow. The best that I can come up with is to tie strings to the pot shafts and pull out pickup and pots together. Then change the pot and put strings back on and pull back through the pickup hole.

Anyone have any other luthier tricks. Did a search but did no come up with anything.

Yep, that's what you do. It takes a lot of patience, and gentle persuasion too. The only "trick" I've seen is using surgical tubing on the pots instead of tying string to them. Supposed to make it easier to fish 'em back into the holes, but I'd be concerned with one coming off at exactly the wrong moment.

Gintaras,

The ASB140 isn't open behind the pickup. The sound block is behind the pickup. There's a little hole in the corner the pickup wires go through, and it's not big enough to run the pots or jack through.

Good luck, though

Bob

Sounds it might not be worth going through the learning curve. I'll just take it to Phil at Philtone Guitars and let the pro's take care of it. Might just replace tone pot with a varitone

I have now put in three pickup combinations and three preamps in my Guild Starfire II bass, yes it is a pain, but at least you don't have a pickup slelector switch located on the upper horn, that was the toughest for me

String and patience!!!!!!!!!!!!!
