Changing Spector Pickups and EQ

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

I recently acquired a Spector Euro 4 Lx and would prefer to have a single volume pot with a blend control.

What would I need to do with the spector controls to provide the following controls

1No volume control with active passive pull pot
1No blend control

I would like the option to bypass the EQ. The pickups are EMG so I know they are active and would require the 9v battery to operate.

I let my amp handle the EQ. So the other option is to change the pickups to passive and take out the tone pump circuit and replace with passive tone controls.

Can someone give me some advice on this issue and point me in the right direction?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

I'm not qualified to answer your questions, but I have one thing to point out:

Assuming that Tonepump preamp is the same one that I tried years ago in a non-USA Spector, then merely mid-pointing the EQ controls will not leave the circuit anywhere close to "flat". The one I tried was drastically (and annoyingly) tone-contoured and hyped-up, even with all the EQ knobs in the center positions.

Bypassing the whole preamp/circuit will make a huge difference in tone.

Tonepump is boost only so with the knobs in the mid position you are about 9dbs of boost

I realize that this is for Aguilar, but the wiring diagram is similar enough. http://www.aguilaramp.com/pdf/support_wiring_obp1.pdf

Page 2 will show you how to wire in the blend control, and page 3 shows you how to wire in a switch.

Also, EMG makes passive pickups as well. The Euro line does come with DC's, which are active, but Spector and numerous other companies use passive EMGs (mainly the HZ's). Just FYI so you don't encounter passive EMGs later and wonder why you can't connect them to a battery.

Nope. Spector Tonepump = Boost/Cut!

It was my understanding that the TonePump Jr. has always been boost-only and that the TonePump is boost/cut.
