Anyone ever replaced the stock pickups (active p/j) in a Charvel 3B?

as the resident Jackson Fanatic around here and have quite a lot of them......yes I have.

any passive pickups will work..your choice. In fact you can throw the je2000 preamp in the garbage if you stick "active" EMG's in it.

I never did because I like the j2000 preamp sound, but on "my" replacements for the OEM Jackson p/u's I like SD Basslines.

Like I said since the unit is passive pickups with a preamp,...anything that you fancy will work.

Right on! This thing is a tank! I like steel strings, I would like some more mid range growl out of the bridge p/u though, I feel like that's the general opinion about these from what I've read. Thinking about some passive barts...?

before you get crazy with mods do the simple one..throw the switch in your parts drawer and put a 250k blend pot in, your missing out on a lot.

I'm not saying the OEM pickups are junk, just not anything great because they are not "consistent".

I have had so many Jackson pickups in my parts drawer in the past and the ohms on a lot of them are all over the place ( for example: I have had extra p-sets sitting in my drawer, out of them 3 were 7.5k, 2 were 11k, and 1 was 5.75k ). Naturally with a preamp it makes up a lot of gain, but still....

you could have one of the weaker sets in yours..no way to tell unless you measure them.

I'm so much of a tone fanatic, Ill put some sort of new pickups in it. Kindof a newbie at modding basses. Is love to stick a Leo quan Badass II on it if I can get one cheap enough. I put one on my first bass I ever owned that I still have and the difference is like night & day. Do you have a Badass on any of yours(past & present), and do you play slap on yours?

naw, no need to change the bridge, you won't be gaining anything but a name and out of pocket expense.

however, the 5 back screws will line up with a BA.

nothing will change tonewise unless you swap out the pickups AND preamp or remove it totally and make it a passive unit.

slap bass? nope. speedmetal? yes although I'll play anything - just look me up on youtube.

here's an example jam using my CMG of what I like:
forgive the string buzz, a friend of mine GAVE me the CMG with a FB that is separating from the back of the neck and I wanted to jam on it before I took it apart.
HISPEED test ON THE CMG. - YouTube

don't get weird-ed out because I'm a lefty but can play inverted strings like you all can play normal ( E on top ) so I can flip anything and just jam.

theres a few vids of me using my 3b's mixed in with the rest of the vids.
