Cheap pups for an SX PJ

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to upgrade the pickups on my SX PJ bass and i do not want to spend a cent over $300AU. Installation costs $45 at a nearby shop so i was trying to find out the best quality J and P pickups to buy for cheap.

I like low end growl and high end warmth with an overall round sound, if that helps. My Bass is passive btw

FWIW:

If all you're doing is swapping pups you can probably save $45 of that by doing it yourself if you can get your hands on a cheap solder gun, decent solder, and some electricity. Sounds like a good beginner project as you basically would simply note where the wires to the pups go that you remove and solder the replacements the same.

In part the pups will depend on what's available at acceptable prices where you are.

I would also recommend reading FAQ Dimento's Trouble Shooting Guide and the Bass Mod link in the 1st paragraph of it. The link will direct on mods, the TS Guide will probably be needed if you do it yourself. Both may save you some grief and cash.
