I've just bought one of the cheapo (GBP 30) piezo bridges you can find on eBay, and fitted it as a 30th birthday present for my 1979 Greco bass.
This is a lovely bass to play, and look at, but unfortunately it sounded dreadful amplified, though unplugged is sounds pertty good.
The original pickups are brown, with curved tops, and I thought it would spoil the charm of it to fit a couple of flat-top black soap-bars, and the new (black) bridge fits in pretty well.
I've not yet played it with a drummer, but it certainly sounds a lot better than with the knackered pickups! Not really acoustic, but closer to the unplugged sound.
Does anyone else have any experience of these things - or know who makes them? They're available in the UK, US and Canada, but none of the sellers mentions a make or model number. Almost certainly Korean, but it would be interesting to learn more. |
