Cheapo piezo bridge

I've just bought one of the cheapo (GBP 30) piezo bridges you can find on eBay, and fitted it as a 30th birthday present for my 1979 Greco bass.

This is a lovely bass to play, and look at, but unfortunately it sounded dreadful amplified, though unplugged is sounds pertty good.

The original pickups are brown, with curved tops, and I thought it would spoil the charm of it to fit a couple of flat-top black soap-bars, and the new (black) bridge fits in pretty well.

I've not yet played it with a drummer, but it certainly sounds a lot better than with the knackered pickups! Not really acoustic, but closer to the unplugged sound.

Does anyone else have any experience of these things - or know who makes them? They're available in the UK, US and Canada, but none of the sellers mentions a make or model number. Almost certainly Korean, but it would be interesting to learn more.

Hi BassoProf,

Are you talking about this bridge?

http://cgi.ebay.com/BASS-BRIDGE-W-BU...d=p3286.c0.m14

I would love to hear what you think about the quality of the bridge itself mechanically. I was also worried that the bridge/saddles might kill the tone of the strings themselves.

What type of amp are you using it with? Do you use an external preamp? I have looked around and you are the only person I have found so far using one of these. My old bridge is bent so this bridge is on my list of possible replacements. In my case I would likely use a switch to go from magnetic to piezo or maybe eventually install a blend circuit.

Thanks,
S

Thanks for the link. I had tried searching but somehow didn't find that thread.
