I am looking for a P bass and was looking for some samples of some Lakland P style basses and found this:

It really nails the sound in my head, I wonder how much is the Villex...which I have never heard of before this clip.

Me wonders what to do...

hmm...honestly that bass sounds nothing like a p bass..IMO at least sounds like a jazz.

I hear the P Bass tone; that's not a hard tone to get at all. You don't need a Lakland for it.

It's really hard to tell because the dude keeps playing so hard to does the whole pseudo slap/pop sound. Even then the bass just doesn't sound like a p bass to me.

It sounds very similar to my '04 MIA P with '62 pickup and SS Lo-Rider (045-105).

I think that is how I play, I dig in a lot and play hard. Though usually I monkey with the tone control to get a few different sounds on a P. A pbass is about the only instrument I actually do not just set and forget the tone knob.
