Choices and Pup Questions

Hi TB'ers,
I have a MIM JAzz bass.
I like it but two things that bug me:
1: Output is noisy.
2: The tone controls sound like band pass filters emphasizing the overotne series. Not terribly useful except for a few settings.

Q1: Why do we have active pups? What are the benefits?

Q2: Which passive pups provide the cleanest and most powerful output?

I really want a Human BaseX.oc

What are you looking for, vintage or modern?

Delano's are also passive, but are usually paired w/ an active pre
