I've recently acquired a Squier Classic Vibe 60s precision, awesome finish, neck body. Its amazing how this 350usd bass plays overall im really stunned. However, I did notice that it lacks a sort of boom, the lower strings tend to have a mere powerless thump. I just feel that it is not warm and boomy enough. I've read the reviews around and other TB threads, but I dont really know which is best.
Music I play? Mainly indie pop/rock(think stars, deathcab, interpol), Im looking for a warm and smooth rounder tone with a bit more low end. Im considering between the SD SPB1/2 the Dimarzio blades and maybe the Bart?
Any idea guys? |

How do you set the controls on the instrument? What amplifier and cabinet do you play through, at what settings? What's your right hand technique like? Is there another instrument you own that already better approaches what you're looking for?
I would start with the EQ on your amp flat and rolling back to about halfway on the bass's tone control if you haven't tried that yet. |

I'm very happy with the results... sounds like most of the Fender Ps I've ever owned..you know that P-Bass punch... but for more lows and smoother I love Barts .....

For $70-$80 it's a great tone.
You can spend more and go with Lindy Fralins... |

If you want that good old Fender tone, I would say that the Fender Original is probably the way to go. They use that pickup as OEM on the American Vintage RI P-basses. I played a 50s RI (MIA, not MIM) side-by-side with a Lakland DD with the Lindy Fralin P, and I preferred the tone of the Fender. The Lindy P p/u was clearer and more articulate, but it didn't have as much 'character' as the Fender IMO. The Fender bass did seem like it would be easier to get a bad, muddy tone out of, but it had more of that ballsy, P-bass punch that the Lindy didn't have IME. Plus, the Fender can be had for under $65 from eBay, and probably other places as well, so it isn't pricey. I think it would probably work out nicely in your Squier.

Only other suggestion I have would be an SPB-2 for higher output.

| | | | Iv heard nothing but good things about lollars, only thing is there pretty pricey, i thought about getten some for my squire i have a 70's "vintage Jazz" its a amazing bass for the price but putting in the lollars just seemed a little silley to me since theyd cost over half the price of the hole bass, but you get what you paid for, best of luck |
