Choosing pick-ups

Okay, this is total hell to me who knows pretty much nothing of bass electronics. I have good musical sense, a fair amount of theory, I know a few things about the woods and the truss rods and all that, but for electronics ZERO, NIET, NADA, NOTHING.

So....

I know I'm getting this pre-amp, the 5 knobs version. This is all set in my mind. Anything with Glockenklang stamped on it and I'll grovel on the floor until I have my hands on it. (thats one of the few things I know, Glockenklang rules, lol)

Now for the pick-ups, I'm hesitating between 2 types. I know I want 2 soapbars, thats 100% certain. Now I'm hesitating between the good old Bartolini soapbar with the jazzy output, or the Nordstrand Fat Stack soapbar (which seem nice but which I've never actually heard)

I play on a 5 string fretless, my playing style is mainly in the mids and highs, I don't use the lows all that much (though I like them to be there when I need them). I absolutely do NOT want this fatty low definition P bass sounds.

Figure something halfay between Steve DiGiorgio and Sean Malone and you just might have an idea of what I'd like to get. Something with a jazzy personality but metal at heart.

Now, does anyone have **any** suggestion at all to make? Don't worry about the price, I'm ready to look at any proposal, even if it means putting cash aside for a whole year.

Feedback on various pick-ups would be sweet to read also.

Lil' bump!

*Any* suggestion will do, I'm really just on a wild hunt to figure out what pick-ups might fit me.

Nordstrand gets my vote for the sound you are after, IMO and IME

F.B., I'm going to suggest Bartolini's Classic Bass series pickups. IMO it would be to your advantage to run your questions about pickups past Brian at Best Bass Gear. He's also a top-notch custom builder, and he has lots of knowledge about the different brands of pickups, and their tonal qualities. I just bought a set of Bartolini Classic Bass 59CBJD's for my Lull J-style 5-string from Brian. IMO they have a killer low mids emphasis, plus a really defined high end that I feel would be great for a fretless 5-string.

Just my 2 cents, -Art

Great, now I have 2 opinions, each supporting one of my two primary choices :P

Well thx to both of you, and I'll do as you suggested, Arthur, and ask this Brian you mentionned.

Thx again.
