I was thinking about buying a Peavey Cirrus for a project bass and was wondering if anyone here has done mods on a Cirrus? Pre-amp (Audere) and possibly changing out the pickups, but they look to be rather large. Anyone? |

Peavey makes a higher end preamp for its Cirrus basses that can be had for only $62 if I recall.

(Punchier than Barts, not quite as nice as Alembics.) Wouldn't mind trying a better pre-amp though, the existing one has strange boost frequencies and could be a tad dull for my liking. Or maybe walnut/mahogany body Cirri just have a tight, slightly muted tone and I just need to get used to it? Certainly very practical for laying down the groove, not quite enough zing for solos.
Don't suppose anyone knows what the stock boost freqs are?
Cheers,

EG | EG, You have it right. I HAD a Cirrus 6 string, walnut/bubinga. The key here is walnut. Huge sound in my opinion. Nice and compressed and a lot of bottom end. Though I will say that the bass was very "high-end" sounding. I love that wood combination. I currently use an alder/flame maple top and it's nice for soloing.
If you like the pickups, just get a new preamp, like an OBP-3. That will probably give you the tonal characteristics you want.

I was actually trying to get the pre-amp and some Basslines pickups for my Tobias, but missed out on the pickups, so in the Cirrus it goes!
