Cirrus wiring question

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently own 2 Peavey Cirrus basses, 6 string I got back in 1998 and a 5 string I just got used last June. They both have the peavey onboard 18volt preamp with their patented VFL pickups, but the wiring is different between them.

my 6 string has an individual set of battery wires (red/black) for each battery than connect to the circuit board on their own, while the 5 string has both battery clips in line on a single pair of wires. I've noticed volume/tonal differences between the basses, but I'm not sure if they are due to the different woods and situations I use them in.

So my question is: how many of you Cirrus players have 2 complete sets of battery wires headed back to the circuit board? should i be looking to have this rewired? perhaps someone has a wiring schematic for the preamp that could solve my issues.
Thanks

FWIW:

I'd wager both are factory and they have no issues. You're talking almost 10 years difference in manufacture. They aren't going to be the same and I would be shocked if they were. The probability of them sounding alike or having the same output is unlikely regardless of the battery supply or woods used.

Try contacting PV or go to their site - they should have schematics listed.

Hmmm. Perhaps one was "Upgraded" to the Millennium Preamp...
