Classic 50's P Pickup?

I have a couple year old Classic which also has Lollar JJs. I wonder if it would benefit from a Lollar P PUP. What PUPs are in there and are most people happy with them? I mainly use the neck J PUP since it brings more beef.

I have a 50's Classic P bass that I bought in 2008. Since its MIM, I thought that at some point I would need to change the pickup. I've grown to love it and I don't think I'd benefit from switching it out. In fact, call me crazy but I prefer it to the Nordstrand NP5 pickup that I have in my new Valenti. Whatever pickup Fender was/is using for that model is the classic P sound IMHO. I have 2 year old LaBella flats on it and it just works.

Hope this was helpful

I appreciate the input, I have found the tone a little vanilla. The jpj is wearing GHS P flats and the Lollar J neck is used 90% of the time as it really thumps. I use the P PUP for growl but it sounds a little (not a lot) thin to me. Maybe it is the contrast with the Lollar which is closer to the neck then normal?

Is there a volume difference? The louder pickup will almost always sound better if you're doing a direct comparison. I didn't like the weaker J in my P/J until I started comparing them at equal volumes.

In a thread here on something like "pickup for the the classic/vintage P-bass sound" the Duncan SPB-1 and the Fender '62 Original got a lot of votes.

I've got a Wilde P-46 that I'm happy with, but I'm just a newb and have no idea if it's a "vintage" sound.

I don't have a good rig at home and at band 1 tomorrow it is strictly a 5er (I leave one there). I'll see what my Pignose Hog will tell me though.

The MIM Classic 50's come with an American Standard pup in them. I think it sounds great in mine.

I'd love to hear what a bass like yours would sound like with the only difference being that the neck pickup is a single coil P pickup!
All 3 of the classic Fender pickup styles on one bass!
