I wonder if it would benefit from a Lollar P PUP. What PUPs are in there and are most people happy with them? I mainly use the neck J PUP since it brings more beef.

I've grown to love it and I don't think I'd benefit from switching it out. In fact, call me crazy but I prefer it to the Nordstrand NP5 pickup that I have in my new Valenti. Whatever pickup Fender was/is using for that model is the classic P sound IMHO. I have 2 year old LaBella flats on it and it just works.
Hope this was helpful

The jpj is wearing GHS P flats and the Lollar J neck is used 90% of the time as it really thumps. I use the P PUP for growl but it sounds a little (not a lot) thin to me. Maybe it is the contrast with the Lollar which is closer to the neck then normal?

In a thread here on something like "pickup for the the classic/vintage P-bass sound" the Duncan SPB-1 and the Fender '62 Original got a lot of votes.
I've got a Wilde P-46 that I'm happy with, but I'm just a newb and have no idea if it's a "vintage" sound.

All 3 of the classic Fender pickup styles on one bass!
