Classic J bass pickup, choices , opinions

Sign in to disble this ad
I am presently on my second J Bass ( fenders) and as of
yet unable to obtain what I call the classic J Bass tone.
I know there are quite a few variations but consider the
J Bass sound of Hendrix to be a very sought after tone in
my book. Solid deep with slight bit of growl associated with
the tone. The present pickup set I am using is the standard
fender 60's pickup and wonder what others are finding to
achieve a more classic tone. Mine work well but lack the
real low end authority I am so used to hearing on recordings.
I am aware technique and associated equipment are also
a player factor.
Any opinions and ideas greatly appreciated..
