Cleaning your pots?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello fellow bass players,
Is it a big deal to clean scratchy pots on your bass or amps,
I have some older amps and basses in my collection that could use some cleaning,is buying a can of contact cleaner all you need? Can the average Joe do the cleaning himself?
Like just spraying into the pot and turning the volume knob several times. or is there more to it?

Yes, that's about the size of it. I'd make sure your amp is disconnected from the mains when when you do this - in case you touch something live that you shouldn't!!.

Strongly recommend using something gentle like Cramolin (from Craig Laobortories) as it is gentle and won't damage fragile carbon wipers from old pots

We always used to clean it inside the gatefold of an LP album jacket.

Oh wait, you said pots. Nevermind...
