Thumbs up Click or crackle static sound - thumb/neck pick up?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

Here's something that's sort of hard to describe, and was hard to search for in the forums.

On my DJ4, I use a thumb technique up at the base of the neck on the G string (like a Marcus double thumping) - use it like a pick up and down. Only up in this position on the G string I can hear static or random clicks.

Anyone experience this? I think it has something to do with the tone produced with my thumb nail.

Is this a shielding / hum related deal based on the nature of passive/jazz bass single coil things? Or a pick up height thing?

Thanks for any input on this
