It's possible, but why?
You'd have to re-wind the entire pickup to put in the tap, and it'd just make the sound thinner. The best part of a P-Bass is it's thick, full, room filling sound. It's kinda like buying a brand new VR-6 Corvette and modifying the fuel system & intake to run it on 4 cylinders... can be done, but why would you?

If you want to thin out the tone of a P-Bass, connect the coils in parallel...no need to mess with each coil.

If you 'coil-tap' a P, you'll short out one side of the pickup combo.

That would be coil spliting, not coil tapping. Coil tapping would require the coils to be altered and went out of style in the early 80's.

A series/parallel would be cool, like DiMarzio P pickups allow.

I dig those on a P Style pickup. Let's you pull off a sort of fake Single Coil tone.
