Cold solder? (r4003)

Sign in to disble this ad
My Rick 4003 which I wired up myself just seems to be lacking alot in the high-mids, when compared to my jazz's.

The volume is definantly there, all the pots work correctly, its just both pickups sound really muddy, the pickups never drop out.

Is it possible for a cold solder to cause this muddiness?

Doubtful.

It could be because it's a ric and not a jazz tho

I dont think so, cold solder just makes for lousy solder job overall and its next to impossible to resolder there once cold solder gun has been used.

What cap/pot values did you use? That could have an effect on the tone.

Cold solder joints typically cause open circuits or, more likely, intermittent ones. Rarely will a cold solder joint act like a non-intermittent series resistor.
