complex wiring help please (3 pickups)

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok electronics people I need your help! I've modded a bass of mine to have 2 single coil jazz pickups and a bartolinin MM style humbucker between them. I've wired up these 3 pickups to a DPDT (on-off-on) switch, jazz pickups to one half and MM to the other and then the hots from these into the sides of a blend pot so I can choose jazz or MM pickups then use the toggle to choose coils which should allow me to get neck-series humbucker-bridge coils from the musicman pickup and using the little diagram from this thread ( http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showth...=mini+selector ) it should aso allow me to get neck-both-bridge from the jazz pickups. While the Mm switching works well the jazz pup selector creates a very thin and dead sounding middle position so I can full use of either single coil but not use of both.

Is there anything I can do to unlock this middle position, both pickups tone or is it just not achievable with this wiring?

could it be out of phase? and what can I do to solve this?

to sum up I'm using a DPDt (on-off-on) switch for both the MM pickups selection between neck-series-bridge and neck-both-bridge on the 2 single coil jazz pickups... the MM pickup functions perfectly but the Jazz pickups are loosing their middle option.

Please help!

Yes. The J pickups have to wires coming out of them (+/-). On one of the pickups, simply switch these two wires in your circuit.
