Cone/ V shaped springs

I wonder if anyone on TB can help me with this fairly simple question.

I was having some trouble with the pickup height on my Gretsch bass so I decided to open up the casing/ bezel to have a look. Managed to sort it out, however when I went to put it all back together again i noticed that the 2 springs on either side of the pickup were cone/ v shaped and I had not paid attention to what way round they needed to go.

So my question is - do they need to be installed with the wider end at the bottom and the thinner end at the top or the other way around? Or does it really matter?

Sorry for posting such a dumb-ass question but i've never owned a bass before.

Thanks,
Cieran

Wider end at the top, so that the pickup will not rock back and fourth.

Thanks for your reply.

I had a funny feeling that this was the way round they needed to be.

Thanks once again
