Conklin GT7 Preamp

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I'm wondering has anyone on here replaced their preamp in their Conklin GT7?? I'm thinking about doing it, and was wondering if anyone else has done it, or considering doing it. I believe that I'm not the only one who thinks that the might mite preamp that is installed in this bass sounds crappy. Not only is the preamp weak, but the highs are very unnatural sounding, and the bass is kinda muddy too. I'm thinking about either installing a aggie OBP-3 or a Bart 3 band eq with a bypass for passive.

If you have the mighty-mite preamp, I have a MUCH cheaper and easier thing to try FIRST. Go to radioshack and get a TL082 chip, and replace the TL072 in the preamp. It clears up, the lows get better, and the highs smooth out. I did it to my GT-4, and was very satisfied.

I tried to find the chip on the preamp but had no success. I'm not very handy when it comes to electronics I guess.
