Cort Steinberger Copy Wiring Diagram and Help

Hi Fellas,

I have a cort steinberger copy 4 string that has some electronics issues.

I inherited the bass and, when I got it, the volume pot was shot. I had never tried replacing guitar electronics, so I gave it to a friend of mine to repair. He replaced the volume pot with another (not sure if they are all interchangeable. I assume not) and gave it back to me but, since then (many years ago) it still never worked right. Low volume, lots of noise, the knob on the volume pot doesn't move freely, etc etc.

Long story short, I'd like to replace the volume pot and find the wiring schematic for this setup because, it seems, in the process of moving it around, another wire or 2 have come loose.

Keep in mind, I used to build custom motorcycles, so I have soldering know how, I just don't know where all the pretty wires connect

Thanks,

Kon

I think this may be the right one if its a passive bass. Click image for larger version

96tbird, thanks so much for the quick reply and the diagram. I appreciate it.
However, the bass I have has EMG P-J style pickups that use a 9volt battery, which, if I'm correct, makes it active? Would you happen to have a schematic for that (am I just asking too much?)

Looking at the wiring, however, I notice that the positive (red) battery wire comes out of one of pickups (not sure which one, haven't taken it apart that far) into the battery terminal, and the negative battery wire (black), goes off to the input jack. Other than that, would the rest of the wiring be the same?

Also, my question regarding the type of volume knob. Do they come in different resistance, or output, or whatever? I will need to replace the volume pot that is there now. If it has to be something specific, how do I know what I need (the one in there now is not original)?

Thanks a million.

Emg website will have what you need. You'll have to identify the setup you have and pick the correct diagram. http://www.emgpickups.com/search/wiring

96tbird, SGD Lutherie, thank you very much!

SGD Lutherie, the diagram you posted looks spot on.

Now, regarding replacing the volume pot, does that have to be a specific item, or are they all the same? I notice some sort of resistor, or capacitor or some such item attached to it..

Much thanks,

Kon
