Dimarzio Ultra or Model J pup question

Can two Dimarzio Ultra or Model J pups side by side be wired to sound/act like a P pickup?

As in using the top half of the front J as the E/A side, and then lower half of the second one to cover the D/G side?

Has anyone done this with good results?

I've often wondered this myself... or just sticking them side by side like an EB humbucker...

I just don't know how you can pull that off. Not to mention, the Ultra jazz pickups are too bright, too clean for a P sound. I installed them on two Jazz bases but will be changing them this week.

It should work fine, electronically. Just use the leads for one coil from each pickup.

But it still won't sound like a P.

putting regular j pups in and using a seies/parallel wiring will get closer to a p bass. check TB for other sites regarding this
