DiMarzio UltraJazz pu's on Marcus Miller Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone,

I have a fender marcus miller jazz bass and I want to replace the stock pickups with the dimarzio ultrajazz pairs.

Does it change the unique sound of the marcus miller's jazz bass' sound into something different after I replace them with dimarzios?

I mean there is an annoying hiss when I play it through the stock single-coils pu's so that's why I want to replace them with dimarzio's ultra jazz pu's but of course I don't want to change the unique marcus' sound from the bass into something else.

Anyone could help me on this issue please?

Single-coils are known for hum, not hiss. A cheap preamp might add hiss. (Or maybe you said "hiss" but really meant "hum"?) Anyway, if it goes away when both pickups are turned up, then yes, your issue is with the single-coils.

IME the UltraJazz has a very tasty, "scooped" slap-friendly sound, which is a lot like the Marcus Miller recordings I have. (I've had 'em in a couple of basses, including a '76 Jazz - doesn't get much more "Marcus" than that!)

I don't know what comes stock in the Marcus Miller Jazz, but these would be high on my list for that vibe. (Along with a GOOD 2-band preamp.)
