If you have ever tried blade-style magnets, you know they have some strange design, but also have significant advantage, in my opinion. In my Fender P, I installed blade pickups and they made a humbucker out of the split design. I hear quite often that the Musicman Stingray is the evolution of the P-Bass, which makes the P with blade pups a great mutation. So, in summary, the entire point of this thread is to let you know that if you are thinking about getting new P-bass pups(or j pups, i've just never used em), you may want to consider Dimarzio's blade pickups. Big advantage!

Or have i missed something, i know that blade pickups will give you a more balanced sound for each string, but ive never had that problem with regular pole-d pickups.
What does that pup sound like? Ive got a DiMarzio Model P, P pickup, and i have to say, its awesome

| | | | I haven't tried that model yet. But I've never had a hum problem with the regular split P pickup. The two halves used together are humbucking.
I imagine those DiMarzios would sound different. |

| | | | I had that model in a Mexi P-Bass I owned about 7 years ago. It was a definite improvement over the stock pup but I was a beginner at the time and really couldn't put it to much good use. It was a very quiet pup (low noise) as I recall. Had to sell the bass to pay the rent. |

| | | | The big advantage is output. I fiend for active pups but only had room for the single coil. That is where the blades came in.

The difference is that the sound is more "fat" and a tad bit less clear than that of a classic P-pickup design.
Yes, they'd be super quiet. But I've never had problems with noise on any P-pickup I've ever owned...(have had 5 in 4 different basses past and present) |
