Hi guys,
Does anyone have an example of this? I'm very interested in the model Js, and they sound like a perfect fit for me - but I've only heard them in a solo setting. Does anyone have them playing along with distorted guitars, or any harder setting? |

It's these guys, but I'd also be kind of interested in hearing Area Js or even Ultra Js in a rock/punk/hardcore/whatever setting! |

IIRC they are actually split coil humcancellers, and IMO they have more of a Fender-P vibe than a Fender J-vibe. IMO They're a lot fatter, punchier and bolder sounding than your typical SC Jazz pickup IMO.

Have you recorded with that bass? |

no idea about area j's, but i don't think the ultrajazz gets it done like the model j. i have one on my 76 pj, and it's a little more "vintage" sounding than the model j.

Not the cleanest, clearest sound in the world, but the high end through a hard-working tube amp or sim pedal is memorable indeed. I recommend them. I've no experience with their other models.

If I had to choose between the Model J and the Ultra Jazz, I honestly don't know which I would pick. If memory serves me correctly, the Model J is a bit darker sounding but that could have easily just been the basses or the strings or whatever. I think both would be excellent in just about any rock situation.
When I saw the title of the post: "DiMarzios in a rock setting?" my first thought was "Yes, please." |

With most pickups I look at, it's like "well, that's a good sounding feature, but this and this sound bad" - with this, it sounds like it's dark, angry, and responds well to distortion. Doesn't really sound like a jazz pickup, but kicks all kinds of ass.
Yup, sounds perfect to me! |
