Dirty tone controls on Dynabass are noisy

Sign in to disble this ad
All the tone controls on my circa 1990 Peavey Dynabass Unity are very noisy when adjusted making very loud scratching noises. Im thinking that I should pull the cover for the control pot access area and spray them all down with Quick drying Electronic Cleaner.

Any other suggestions to remedy this?

Take the knobs off the pots, then spray contact cleaner down the shafts. Turn them a few times then repeat. Wipe off any excess. After about 10-15 minutes of drying time plug it in and see if it helps. Spraying them from the back typically doesn't help because they are sealed on the backs. Also, make sure that your contact cleaner is safe for plastics. If it is not and it seeps into the control cavity it can destroy the preamp circuit board.
