disadvantages of changing just one pickup

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking about putting a Nordstrand NJ-4SV in just the neck position of my Jazz Bass. I generally don't use just my bridge pickup -- it's either both of them at equal volume, or just the neck, so I figured that rather than blowing $230 on the set, I could start off with spending $115 in the spot that would benefit the most from a hum-cancelling pickup.

Are there any disadvantages to installing just one pickup rather than a set? Obviously my sound will be slightly different, and I'll need to open up the bass twice if I decide to put in the bridge pickup, but is there anything else I should consider?

thanks!

Possible differences in volume that cannot be gotten around simply by raising and lowering the pickups.

Personally I'm almost always a fan of doing sets of pickups, unless of course I'm trying to accomplish some kind specific tone versatility on the bass.
