Sign in to disble this ad
It appears that the problem is with my good old G&L SB-2 it always sounded more than great but lately there's that buzzing sound first i thought it's the amp and i tried another and it still there even pluged it to the mixer and it still there, could it be possible that passive pickups are the reason and how could i fix this?..

Try lowering your pickup height.

Just start tracking down where the problem is. Did you switch out your cord? Did you try another bass? Is the problem only on one pickup or both? Is there a battery somewhere? (bass, preamp, pedal etc.) Does wiggling plugs change anything? Even try wiggling wires inside the bass (take covers off).

My guess would be that if it's always there regardless of if you have one pickup or the other or both, then it might be a loose wire that came unsoldered somewhere and is vibrating. If it is only happening on one pickup, then probably that pickup has a loose wire or has become "microphonic". Tapping on the pickup case with a wooden dowel can reveal microphonics. If the problem is inside one of the pickups that usually takes a new pickup or some seriously skilled repair work.

Good luck.

I tried everything you mentioned except checking loose wires inside the pickups and by the way the problem is with both pickups.
