DJ5 with Aeros and Audere preamp-low output?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'll admit that I can be a bit of a dum-dum when it comes to pickups and electronics, so bear with me...

I have a DJ5 with the stock Aero pickups and the Audere preamp. Compared to my other basses(a mutt bass with passive Bart soapbars and a Marcus Miller 4 with an Aggie preamp), the Dj5 seems to have less output. I really have to turn up the gain and volume when the preamp is set to Mid-Z. When in Low-Z mode, there appears to be more output.

The battery is good and I have raised the pickups. These adjustments have helped-I'm just wondering if the Aeros just put out a lower volume.

Is there any way to know if your pickups are putting out it's optimal signal?

Again, sorry if I'm using incorrect terminology...

The Audere isn't a hot preamp - it's a clear one. You will pickup some volume in the low Z dark switch setting. The output on my PJ with Audere is about the same as a passive bass.

Can you drop the gain on your other pre's ? If not then you need to plan on a volume adjust when switching basses is my thought.

I use a Radial Bassbone to do that for me when necessary.
