Do i need a pup replacement?

Sign in to disble this ad
so im trying to fix a Harmony p-bass and everytime i plug it in and trun it up i get a loud buzzing. Any volume i get form the bass is extremely low. its almost like turning a speaker all the way up and playing a extremely quiet noise through it.

question is: do i need a pup replacements? are my wires screwed up? maybe a new pot?

ive looked up schematics and the way this thing is made seems very irregular, because the ground is run through both pots on one wire connected to the jack. if anybody can help me out that would be great, and i can post a picture if needed

I'd suggest starting by making sure that everything is connected inside. The jack may be disconnected or (wired backwards?) and that buzzing is probably something that needs to be grounded.

good luck!

Sounds like a dodgy ground connection.

Your picture is very dark and hard to see. But it looks like you have this wired completely wrong.Wire it like this (practice your soldering allot before doing it anyways). I would also replace the pots, I had to un solder and re-solder one today total nightmare.

solved?

thank you, DRN-PWNS, but you acam a little late on posting this! haha . i had already studied the schematics and had rewired it. i also took the time to replace the volume pot to a newer one. i still have the same problem: low volume with massive buzzing. ive narrowed it down to the pups. whoever worked on this before me had really screwed it up, but im wondering what the fudge they did wrong.

maybe some idiot decided to put active pickups in??? who knows...

...ill be sure to get some new pups in soon.
thanks again.
