Do they make any Jazz bridge pickups with more bottom end and more beefy sound?

Are there any Jazz bridge pickups that have a bigger more meaty sound to them? Most everything I've come across seems to be more thin and nasally. I've heard the Model Js have more of a prominent bottom end but is that just the neck pickup? Anything anyone might recommend with a deeper bottom end and a bit rolled off on the highs?

is more a matter of position, rather than the pickup being voiced in a nasal way. The closer to the bridge the less low end you get from a pick up. I would say that you might get a bit more of low end from a humbucking pickup, but that's just a guess.

a pickup that size in that location is just gonna inherently be thinner and "barkier".

a duncan "hot", QP, or dimarzio ultra-jazz will be fatter, louder versions of the same sound.

the question then becomes how it plays with the other pickup, both for tone mixing and for hum-canceling.

Humbucking split coil 4 string jazz-type bass pickups

These are a split coil hum cancelling design. They use the same hand wound pattern found on our NJ4's but with a finer wire called 43 gauge enamel. The natural character of this design is to have a more pronounced lower midrange, and a slightly muted high end. This makes them exceptionally suited to fingerstyle players who are going for a solo bridge pickup sound with good "bark" and "heft." They are also totally humcancelling, and great for commonly noisy live situations.

I've got a pair of model j pups in an MIM j and they sound great. Lots of bottom on both compared to the stockers they replaced, but surprisingly not overly muddy unless you want them to be.

I can get some decent bottom end from my J45 bridge pup...still has the nasal edge, but beefy all the same.

Hi,

I got this luthier living pretty close to me. He sells pickups too. it's Johnny Mørch. He's always been about quality without compromise.

he writes this about his fat fingers pickups:
This popular pickup is designed for bass players who wants considerably higher outputs and a more gutsy and full tone with a warmer, fuller sound quality to the lower midrange and a big, open bass response. The treble has a certain “vintage” characteristic – i.e. with a gradual treble roll off as opposed to super penetrating highs.

there are several others. and there is a page with a full arsenal of a simple bassline played on the different pickups in the same bass ( it's a test bass he has where you can slide different pickups in and out with out soldering. pretty neat if you ask me. )

anyways. I vouch for all his products. Nothing in this luthier's workshop is less than awesome. take a look in the gallery too. He's been doing this job, or should I say passion, for his whole life. I've played boutique before, but nothing like his instruments/pickups/electronics. Each instrument I've played made by Mørch has been 7th heaven in regards of playability and a true work of art.

have a look at his pickups here:

EDIT: BTW - you might have noticed this little fella on the cover of bassplayer magazine

Thanks everybody for the help. I think I am actually just gonna wait a while before I do anything. I've got a good tone blended between the two pickups that I'm pretty happy with now. I was worried that I would never use the current bridge pickup and rely solely on the P but I've worked it into a good sound from the combo now. I think I'm gonna concentrate more on finding the right strings and the right tone from Ampeg/Amplitube and I should be good (for a while at least). I think I'm just having GAS again and I'm in a buying mood since I got the bass not long ago at all.
