Do you think this cheap pre-amp would get the job done?

Stumbled across this preamp on ebay and thought it might be an idea to experiment around with it in my passive jazz. Im not expecting it to be an amazing, flexible preamp and i like my passive sound. But i was wondering wether putting the active circuit in would give my jazz the typical 'active' sound.

Thoughts?

You might be better off to try and get your hands on either a Sadowsky or Alleva Coppolo outboard preamp. No surgery required for your bass, both are great active preamps, and if you don't like them, much easier to sell.

I prefer John East preamp to direct replace jazz bass electronic.

go with a 3 or 4 band preamp ... there was a j-retro on ebay for a good price recently.

For a few bucks more you can get an MXR DI+ (used) you then have a bit of distortion and DI capabilities.

Im not really looking for extra features or frills like distortion, 4 band eq etc. At the moment, im heavily modding my guitar (its completely in peices) and i thought while im at it, might as well experiment with my basses.

I just want to know if this will work as a run-of-the-mill pre. Its not necessarily going to be permenant, just something to play around with. Ive never owned an active bass before and it may even help me for when i finally build a pre for my passive SUB (ive had it planned for ages, just havent gotten around to it).

Thanks for the speedy responses though, keep them coming

"This brand new 2 band pre-amp circuit for active bass pick-up equalizer systems is essential for all acoustic guitarists..."

oh yeah, that inspires confidence in the product

a cheap-ass preamp is worse than no preamp at all.
