Does an active EQ give passive pickups an active "vibe"??

I have an Ibanez bass and it has PJ passive PUPS with an active EQ that has bass boost. It sounds awesome, but I'm just wondering, does an active EQ givepassive pickups an "active flavor"??

Only reason I ask is because the pickups are very clear and don't sound anything like any passive pickups I've ever heard.

The pickups are passive, it's that active preamp that is giving you that sound.
