Does anyone else not like emg 35dc's

I got a schecter bass when i bought it it had 35hz passive pickups with an active pre and running 18volts.
I then upgraded to a OBP3 pre and it sounded great and had was real flexible and could get loads of different tones.

don't really know why or what else i was looking for but Gas overpowered me i decided to upgrade the pickups to the 35dc actives and now im finding it really hard to find my sound
I play In a metal band but i wouldn't say i have a generic ''metal'' rumble bass sound probably more of a cutting bright sound with a bit of overdrive but still plenty bass there
I mainly play with fingers, main band is a thrashy band bit like exodus, Testament metallica
and second band is more like heavy southern rock along the lines of down, corrosion of conformity etc
Im finding the dc's way too boomy and lacking the brightness & definition it had before
Also finding the output is way too harsh even with the level on my bass turned half way down its still overloading my compressor
I know everyone seems to complain about the 35hz pickups but after a few weeks of playing with these since the mod im considering ''downgrading'' back to the passive hz's
im just interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience or has an opinion
should they stay or should they go ?

Personally, I'm not too fond of the 35DC's. I like the 35J's much better. More open, clear sounding. Probably, more of a sound you're looking for if you really want to replace the HZ's. Personally, I would put the HZ's back since you know you like the way they sound.

I'm not real fond of EMG's personally. Too sterile.

I like thinks that color my tone just a little bit before it reaches my board. It kind of comes in handy when you're playing covers, because this song my require this kind of tone, but this one requires this one.

Like I use my ATK primarily for most of my playing, but I go to my P-bass for slow songs and playing covers of bands like Pink Floyd and Green Day.

The 35HZs have a ceramic and steel magnet set that makes it sound a bit warmer with better mids. I prefer the HZs over the DCs as well.

last night I swapped them back for the Hz's and I bought two 500k volume pots with push pull switches on them
Ive wired it up the 35hz with a series / parallel option and I really cant believe how much better it is To anyone who has these pickups and is thinking of replacing them
Seriously go get some push pull switches and follow the dimarzio wiring diagrams It makes a huge difference for very little money
The 35dc's may be cool for some people but for me i keep my passives thanks and let my rig do the signal boosting

i'm confused, what do the push pull pots do?

i like the dc and cs combo better than the hz pickups. a bqc preamp will be going in soon for another tweak.
