Does Anyone Use A 3-band EQ w/ P-Basses?

The level of control over my P-Bass is at the mercy of my V/T setup. I was wondering, does anyone out there use a Passive P bass with an Active 3-Band EQ? If you do, what kind of music do you play? I play 70's Funk/Soul (including slap) with my P bass as well as some classic rock. Those with experience, would this be a good idea to make it easier to switch between tones?

-Eric

EDIT: It doesn't necessarily have to be a 3-band. 2- or 4-band would apply. Though I can't imagine a 4-band EQ in an old school P bass. I plan on using a 3-band in a Volume/Mid and Bass/Treble stacked knobs.

I think more along the lines the bass is at the mercy of the player but probability is you already have a 3 band preamp - it's just located in your amp. Really doesn't matter where it's located, the effect is going to be similar. If you can't get it off your amp then it's probably not coming out of the bass. You can alter the signal chain and pretty much get any sound you want and that's what I personally would change, not the bass.

Well, not really. The 4-band on my amp is versatile, but it's not about getting the tone. It's about being able to switch on the fly easier. Going from slap P-Bass to classic rock P-Bass is a bitch on my amp. Every setting needs to be changed. On a dimly lit stage, it's even harder. I was just wondering if anybody has a 3-band EQ installed on their bass and what they think of it.

I have a P/MM with a Sadowsky preamp, so it's just 2 band, boost only. I also have the Vintage Tone Control ($90 tone knob). So I can set the active side to boost the lows and highs for slap and then switch to passive for old school Pbass.

I used to have a Fender Reggie Hamilton Jazz bass that has a P/J configuration. It had the active 3-band EQ on it and I almost always soloed the P-pickups. Lets you dial in exactly what you want.
