does anyone use an Audere 3z preamp without eq controls?

In other words:

no treble, mid, or bass eq knobs, just a 3z switch and maybe a passive tone control

my idea was to keep a simplified bass setup: vol/vol/3z switch and use a single outboard (tube?) preamp with eq adjustments like the EBS ValveDrive. Seems like a possible waste of a preamp to not have at least a 2 band eq, but thought someone else might have given this some thought.

I have wondered the same thing, as most of my ideas have really gone into pickup switching, leaving no room for EQ on a jazz plate.

The Z-mode switch does give you quite a bang-for-the buck in terms of tone manipulation out of a single switch.

You also get the benefit of a preamp with a buffered pickup blend.

I have the JZ3 preamp on my jazz bass. I really mess around with the mid/balance, bass/treble features when jamming different songs. It's really sweet. I also dig my vol/vol/tone controls on my passive jazz.
