Duncan Design 5 String JazzMan pickups

Hi Fellow TB people!

I'm in process on doing a bass build and wondered if anyone used these Duncan Designed JazzMan (5), pickups? I just picked them up in classifieds, and I'm looking to either plan on a Pre, or just go passive.. Not knowing how these pups are naturally voiced (or if they're Active or Active/Passive)...

I'm piecing together a 35" scale maple board (24 fret), and an alder or swamp ash body of my shaping

I may just go all MM, instead of having a J pu on the front, but I can have fun with it in terms of hiding via pick guard ...

Thanks for looking/thinking, sharing if you have any thoughts..

I bet you know more than that

Nice looking bass! Is anything on that Brute custom? Nice pick guard!

I'm still trying to get a read on these pick ups (active or passive, yadda, yadda). I wonder how to check that.. V/O Meter?

I've got a PJ set of Duncan Design that came in my VM Jag which are super punchy, but not all pick ups are created equal.

Oh yeah those Duncans are definitely passive. They will work fine just wired passive or with a preamp.

And yeah, there are a few custom things on my Brute. Kevin Brubaker did the pickguard and the pickups are SGD. Also has a new bridge, new tuners, and an EMG preamp

Cool man! That must be a monstrous tone you get on that bass.

Thanks for the info on the DD's. I'm glad they're passive
