EBMM guts in a Gibson.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

So, I have a Gibson Les Paul 5 string.

I love the look and feel of this bass, but I don't like tone. I've been saving for a EBMM sting ray 5 and planned to sell this bass to fund it, But I've been thinking of putting 2 Seymour Duncan Bassline MM style pickups and the circuitry in the Gibson. I'm sure this would require some routing and a substantial amount of money.

I'm looking for punch with lots of low mids and mids.

I play mostly punk rock, with occasional soft piano rock, and metal.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks.

Are the pickups in there already one of Bartolini's standard shapes? If so you might be able to get a drop-in replacement that accomplishes your tonal goals without requiring the routing that I imagine the EBMM pickups would.

i don't think it would make it sound like a stingray though...

you'd have to put the stingray pickup just about right in between those two pickups to be in the right place, the string spacing may be off, and it still won't sound anything like a bolt-on maple neck bass. you'd be pretty much ruining a cool instrument for likely an unsatisfactory result
