EMG or Bart?

So I'm going to get a new bass relatively soon and I've narrowed it down to either the Spector Legend Classic 5 or the Legend Custom 5. They both fit exactly what I want as far as feel goes, but I'd like your input on the electronics.

The Classic has EMG SSD pickups (custom designed for Spector) and a TonePump Jr., and the Custom has EMG HZs and an EMG preamp (not sure which one).

Would the Custom be fine as is, or should I get the Classic and upgrade the preamp to, I was thinking, either an EMG BQC or a Bartolini 4.6? Or what else would you prefer?

The custom has a little bit better pups and preamp imo. Diff try it for awhile to include adjusting the pups for best sound to you. Before deciding to replace them. I like emgs better then barts myself. The emg BQC would be a step up for either bass. It has selectable treble center freqs via switches on the brd. And sweepable mids if you get the 3band version.

i would go with the Custom. EMG HZ are passives, so if the preamp battery die you can still playing

Trying is believing, with pickups. The best you can do is find soundclips/videos.
well the BEST you can do is try both out (as far as emg vs. bartolini).. requires a little extra investing, but if theyre compatible size, resale for a tested-only pickup on TB is probably pretty decent ^_^

Always read reviews and find opinions, but never make a decision based on words alone; words are so subjective, merely a tool for ideas. Likes and dislikes factor into diction, so one person may say a pickup is "warm and articulate" and another may say "bright but fuzzy"
