EMG/Bartolini

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I was thinking about either getting a Spector Legend4 Custom Bubingna or a Schecter Stiletto Custom 4 Bubingna. I don't like EMG HZ's, so I would want to replace the pickups. I was thinking about getting an EMG DC (for more brighter, Primus like stuff). Then a Bartolini in the neck for more classic rock stuff. Do you think that's a good idea? If so, what preamp should i get (I'm thinking Aguilar or Bartolini)

P.S Maybe a Seymour Duncan preamp STC-3??

Bartolini are passive pickups. EMG are active. You can't mix the two AFAIK.

Well, technically you can mix the two, but it means having a custom built premap installed between the bartolini pup and its relivent connection point to the system. This really isn't a big problem, I can email you the design package I have made to 100% nail that home preamp! Its still in development and needs more geeking, but its close.

No. I don't think its a good idea.

I do think this is a good idea:

http://www.emginc.com/displayproduct...&categoryid=24

But I am thinking the bass you are looking at has soapbars...so...then this for the bridge...like you said:

http://www.emginc.com/displayproduct...7&catalogid=75

And this in the "neck" position:

http://www.emginc.com/displayproduct...&catalogid=113

Remember...you said classic rock...and classic rock is P bass baby...

I have a Stilleto Custom 5. I spoke with a Tech at EMG. He said the best setup for the Schecters and ESP's with the EMGHZ (35+40) is this.
Neck: 40CS.

Bridge: 40DC.

or 35CS and 35DC for 4 bangers.

Bartolinis will be warmer.

This is what you will be looking for

I actually found the DC's to be too harsh in the bridge spot, and did the reverse when I used to play Spectors...DC neck, CS bridge...with the quick change connector, you can change them back and forth and see which works better for yourself.

Some additional bartolini dimensions and descriptions:

http://www.bartolini.net/information..._bass_pu_s.htm

And some information on fairly new preamp that lots of people are talking about:

http://audereaudio.com/

Basically...from what I read...the bartolini preamp will "color" the sound in a way that some people really like. The aguilar will "color" the sound less than the bartolini preamp. And then the Audere will color the sound less to not at all.

Search for emg and bartolini, then search for aguilar and bartolini, then search for audere and you will be able to read for days and days...

Good luck. This should be fun. I hope you can enjoy this journey and hope you end up liking what you get.
