EMG BQC system in Euro5LX!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I own a Spector Euro5LX with a pair of EMG40DC matched with the Spector tonepump, I really like the tone that I get out the bass but I am really considering upgrading the preamp with the EMG BQC system, I mainly play rock and metal, could someone give me some advice on how it sounds with the EMG DCs and how easy would it be to install.

Thanks for your time!

I know that this is a popular mod but I hope you don't mind me suggesting something better in my opinion. I put a BQC into a Tobias with active EMGs and was disappointed.

I'm waiting for a modified John East U-Retro Duluxe 5 knob to go into my Euro LX5. John's combined the volume and blend to make it possible.

I already have a standard U-Retro in my NS5XL and it's totally awesome. A lot of folk on this side of the pond are going this way with their Spectors. See the Spector Club thread for more details.

John's very good to deal with, a very nice guy and he knows his stuff.

I put the BTS system in my Euro 4LX and am quite happy. I thought it was a nice upgrade over he tonepump. It added a little clarity and more growl IMO. I think you'd be happy with the results.

I put one in my Schecter Custom-5. It was super easy to install and sounds amazing! Can't go wrong!

If you really like the tone, why switch? Just curious

I really do like the tone on the bass but i ve heard it sounds even better with the BQC, plus a ve heard that the BQC gives more control and flexibility over your tone.

Anyone elses thoughts??

A couple of years ago I had a Spector Euro LX 4-string. I basically hated the tone pump. For me, it was just too aggressive and offered very little control since it was boost only.

I had a tech put in a BQC system and it was a vast improvement. The thing I loved about it was the sweepable midrange that you could boost or cut. I believe you could select the mids anywhere from 300 Hz to 3 kHz. This allowed me to select "trouble spots" in my tone and cut them out. Believe me, cutting certain frequencies tends to improve your tone more than boosting.

Overall, the BQC made the Spector way more versatile, with more tonal options and much more control. I highly recommend it.

The only issue I had with it is that it was tough to tell exactly what frequencies you were boosting/cutting on the sweepable mids since the knobs weren't marked.

I can't say how difficult it was to install. I had a tech do it since it looked like more than I could handle.

Don't worry about losing that classic Spector tone with the BQC. It will still be there. The BQC just allows you to shape and sculpt it more than the tone pump.

Yup, lots of people have done this and been pleased. I don't think you will regret it in the least.
