EMG-BQS + VMC + Bart MK1 = ?

So I'm sick of the preamp in my bass, which is wired with Bart MK1's (highs are way too brittle...I HATE that sound. I've been using the VLE on my Markbass amp to compensate for it...but it can only do so much...) I've been informed that changing my preamp will do more for my sound than changing the pups. I was turned on to EMG preamps, or "controls," as they call them.

I was thinking about getting the BQS, and possibly dropping the VMC in, as well. I'm wondering how well this will work with the MK1's?

What do you think? Clean up this brittle mess? No matter how well I play, I can't shake these brittle highs.

I like a very mid-growly tone...not a lot of highs...jaco-like. Tony Grey, Janek Gwizdala, Hadrien Feraud... I'm aware they play Fodera and Ken Smith basses, and nothing will compare, but I've just listed them for reference to sound.

Andrew

You should get pretty clean sound. MK1 preamp adds so much highs!
IMO EMG preamps are pretty transparent sounding.
