EMG BTC System with Yamaha bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Yamaha RBX0760-AII and I just bought what I believe is a used BTC system, or part of one, since it has the concentric pot and a balance pot. I was looking around for wiring info, and kept on seeing that the BTC SYSTEM can only be used for EMG pickups, whereas the BTC CONTROL is what can be used for any pickups. Now, is this only because the included volume and balance pot (in the system) are rated for EMGs high output, and therefore I could simply use replacement pots and have it work fine? Or is it something in the preamp itself that will only work with EMG pickups?

Also, I'm thinking of replacing the pickups someday with EMGs anyways, and the pickups in the bass are about EMG 45 sized, however they have about a 1/2 inch on each side that is recessed in, making for nice thumbrests. I was going to buy either 40s or 35s and fill the extra space with something, does anyone has any suggestions?

I think the volume pot is the only difference between the system and the control. I have a BTS control I use with QP's in my fretless Jazz, and I really like it. I'll probably end up using the same system in my fretted Jazz. As for the pickups, maybe you can find pickup rings for them.
