Just curious, but why no P neck / DC bridge ? Figures, lol finally a great comparo but not the combo I'm looking at lol. Any way to do that combo with what you have left? It would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting ready to spend the cash but haven't heard that combo yet.
P/P link is fixed... there was a typo on the file I uploaded (emg was spelled eng, so the file couldn't be found).

It will play now.

Would you rather hear P5/DC with Tonepump or Passive? I can do either as I still have 2 P5's, 2 DC's, and one CS on hand.

Ah, see, I can't get enough smooth.

The DCs sound too "sharp" to me.

alone possibly. In a mix they have clarity. The CS's are really the only EMG option choice in EMG 40 shape for someone who wants smooth. The P5's still have the inherent EMG top end, or more than the CS's do.

P5 neck - DC bridge config added.

Unfortunately, I couldn't do it with the Tonepump bass, as the P5 in the bridge of that bass does not have Quick Connects on it, so it's hard wired and soldered.

So my only option was to do the combo passive in the other Rebop. Best I can offer. Same type of bass, and same strings though.

IMHO that combo is more mid focused and definitely crisp and clear.

I like the p neck dc bridge combo, thanks! I've been wanting to hear those together. Basically the classic p/j combo but a little fuller. The p sounds great in the bridge too though. Wow , super helpful, makes it tough though lol.

THanks. I had to hear them myself to feel confident in my choices, so I figured I'd record some of the different variants. Granted, different preamp/string choices will effect the sound, but at least people can hear how each vary in one setup.

Ok after hrs of listening lol (great comparison). I'm leaning toward the p/j combo. The dc seems to take away a bit of that p growl and boost the highs quite a bit.

Thanks so much for doing this...

Now I am even more confused what I want to put in a Thunderbird style bass... DCs? Ps?

I am thinking a 35TWX in the bridge (wish it was a DC instead of a CS) and a 35PX4 in the neck.

That way with both I could probably get a birdish sound, solo neck for P, coil tap the bridge for PJ, solo tap'd bridge for that J sound. Seems like it would be quite versatile. Thoughts?

Very awesome comparrison man. I have the 40 DCs in one bass and love it. I bought 35 DCs for another and a 35P for yet another. I switched the 35P out for one of the DCs just for ***** and giggles and loved it. The DC sounded great alone in the P bass, and the 35P neck sounded awesome. Although after seeing all this, I may put the 35P in the bridge and the DC in the neck to see how it sounds.

Hey I posted this as another thread, but have you thought about trying the EMG 8 string pickups? I'd like to know how they compare.

They seem to be taken down... too bad, they were a great resource.

The guy in the EMG site videos plays weird chordy stuff which makes them a bit useless, so these clips were gold.

Can I give this just a little bump? I'm in the market for some EMG35 shapes and I'm really interested in hearing these clips. Does anyone have these saved? Thanks

I have a bass with 45DC's and another with 40 P/J's. I'll have to make my own clips and upload them to this thread. I'm no great technique master, but I think I can give people a good idea of the difference

thanks for the reminder. I wish I had done this before I got rid of my HZ's

I'm sure I'm not the only one that would really appreciate that. Thank you!

i'm on vacation right now, but I'll do it next week.

Somebody throw out requests on what you would like to hear.

Direct? amp? flat EQ?

I come from a classic rock background, so I'll try to pick some different song styles. It will be all fingerstyle, but I might be able to slap some VERY basic stuff
