EMG Hardwired Straight So Jack

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm certain I've seen a diagram for wiring active EMGs straight to the output jack, no volume or tone controls, but I can't seem to find it now. If I recall correctly, there was a link posted here at TB to the EMG website showing a diagram for this configuration. Can anyone help me? I emailed EMG as well, so I'll post the link here for future reference depending on who I hear back from first. Thanks a ton!

Matt

P.S. Title obviously should have read straight TO jack. Sorry.

I could draw you a diagram, but it's fairly simple.

The hots go to the tip terminal of the output jack, the grounds (including the bridge) go to the sleeve terminal of the output jack. The negative terminal of the battery goes to the ring terminal of the output jack, and the positive terminal of the battery goes to the red wires of the pickups.

Thank you. That makes sense and saves me the time of dinking around with it myself trying to figure it out.

I just want to clarify one point, though: It is my understanding that EMGs do not require grounding to the bridge. This is what they're literature and diagrams typically indicate, and, indeed, is what I've practiced when wiring them in the typical vol./tone fashion. Does the fact that I'm not using any pots this time around change that at all?

Thanks again.

Alright, skip the bridge ground then.

Having no controls means there is less loading against the pickups, resulting in a brighter and hotter output.

If it's too much, you can try something like a 25K resistor across the output.
