I find them pretty harsh and clanky.

Got them in my REX2000/5...I quite like them!!!

Mind you I also have DC40s in my Spector NS5CR ,now while the DC40s are nicer ,they're a bit too rich for my cashflow, and so the Hzs will do fine for now!!!

I liked them a lot in my Dean Edge 5. As a matter of fact I like the passive HZ pickups a lot better than the active EMG pickups. Go figure.

Seems like a lot of people don't like these pickups, but all my Spectors have them, and I think they sound full and ballsy. Maybe it's all in the EQ, I don't know. Anyway, I like mine.

The right eq can make them sound ok, but I agree with an earlier stated opinion, that they are quite harsh and clanky. If you play smooth jaco-like fingerstyle, they sound ok. If you play pumping eith notes, they sound like total garbage in my experience. No warmth to them at all.

I got 'em in my Spector DLX4 REbop. First off, these pickups, for being passive, are pretty hot. Albiet, I haven't had too much experience with that many other pickups, I can still say that I can get a pretty nice tone/sound out of these guys.

I play finger style and have the volume of the neck pickup at about 60% and the bridge at about 90%. I also have the treble on my bass to about 80% and bass to about 50-60%.
I mostly play rock/hard rock/metal and haven't really been dissapointed with them. I guess I might not notice the "harshness" of them b/c of my fingerstyle and they seem to figh the types of music I play, mostly.

I think they are fairly harsh. Also, they are abnormally quiet. They have very little output.

This may sound like sacrelige to most, including me, but I just installed a set of HZ's into a customers Tobias. He absolutely loves them. I guess for Metal they really cut through, I am not too fond of them, I like Kent Armstrongs a whole lot better in that price range, But I got a free set of barts for doing the swap, so he's happy(my main goal) and I'm happy.....LOL

I have EMG-HZ in my 5 string and they are great if I am playing melodic smooth stuff. Great tone for that. But when I use it for Rock, I just cant get the punch and quickness Im looking for. Very rounded tone and I just cant get the attack to cut through.
