EMG HZ and the Schecter C4

So I have a Schecter C4XXX it's the same as a C4 except it has mudflap style naked lady inlays.

I have to say I love the bass. It plays great and I can really dial in my tone well but I have a question...

Has anyone ever bypassed the preamp?.. I always hear terrible things about the EMG HZ pickups that are in these things but I've also heard the oppinion that it's just the pre-amp that people may be disliking.

I'm just curious if anyone has bypassed the preamp and maybe stuck a tone pot for each pickup in there instead. if so, how does it sound?.

I like this bass to much to do this I think, but if someone has had good experiences with it I may save the project for a rainy day or if I feel the instrument growing old on me and I feel the need for something new.

Thanks!

ok i realized I might not have been overly clear....

I'm asking if anyone's bypassed this preamp and heard the raw sound of the pickups

I did this with my Elite 5 and liked the results. However I missed the flexibility of being able to dial in EQ from the bass while on stage, so I replaced the stock EQ with the BQS (i think) circuit (the one with mid control) and a set of BASSLINES SSB pickups, and I love it!
