EMG J (45J) pickup sounds bad

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently installed an EMG 6 string PJ (45P & 45J) set in my Spector Legend and am having trouble getting a good sound out of the J pickup. The sound I get out of this pickup is very thin, trebly and low output (this goes beyond the typical J pickup sound characteristics). I have raised the J as high as it will go (about 3mm gap between the pickup and the strings) and lowered the height of the P (about 6mm gap between the pickup and strings) but the bass sounds very unbalanced with the P pickup totally dominating the J pickup in output when blended. Does anyone have a remedy for this? How does the output of an EMG DC compare to an EMG P? Thanks.
