I had them in my Modulus VJ and liked them very much. Hard for me to really any extreme differences to the regular EMG's but they were a touch less bright or 'modern' sounding if that means anything. I likes that they had exposed pole pieces and looked more 'correct'. Dead quiet as expected. So I got all the advantages of a standard EMG with the appearance of a traditional P/U. All good.

I have a set of EMG JV in my 4 string and I am most pleased. The top end zing must be dialled in as they are dulled in that area of course. I believe that your set would have a bigger bottom end response? You will be happy. I got mine before the JVX series came out and I would have gone with them if they were available. They are gonna sound great.

I apologize. Mine were just the JV and NOT the 'X' series.

Cool. I like them a lot! I changed the pots to 50k and they sound open and breath now. I installed a concentric EMG bass treble eq for more flexibility but have been considering going back to the original tone control it came with so I can put on generic fender jazz knobs. If you dont like them, PM me and I'll might buy them off you.

This is kind of an old thread now but I wanted to post about these things.

I recently picked up an American Standard Jazz from a fellow TB'er and it came with the JVX PUPS and Pre installed. I have used practically every type of pickup and preamp on the planet in the last 36 years of playing and I can say these things are unbelievable.

This is a very good idea to give active but slightly more vintage sounding PUPS with that crazy active tone control. I really like this over the traditional Bass/Treble or Bass, Mid, Treble preamps out there.

With the JVX's in this Jazz it sounds better than any Bass I own. I can go from mean lean growl to mid scoop thump and everything in between just by which pickups I choose. I can get a very traditional tone by rolling back the tone control or dial it up for a spankity spank.

I was not getting this Bass because it had these in it. I was just looking to try something different. The JVX experience for me was a happy accident.

These are on my list of things to buy and try. The tone that Ed Friedland gets out of these awesome. I still haven't heard anything quite like them.
