I watched this video a while back but was thinking about it the other day.

Is there a disadvantage to this kind of connection? It seems like it would be a great way to test different pickups or swap out accordingly for specific gigs or situations. Maybe you can rig up connectors that you could connect to the ends of the wires in the bass and on various pickups. Just snap the electronics in and out. I mean I don't have to solder the wires from my speakers to my stereo system! You know? It just seems like we're beyond that technologically.

There are several reasons this hasn't become universal even though it's well executed:
  1. Nobody can agree on a standard (just ask yourself why we still use 1/4" connectors when there are more efficient and more secure options available).
  2. Backwards compatibility/Integrating with existing components
  3. Most importantly, Leo Fender didn't think of it

this is another reason i love emgs. i also like the tone quite a bit when playing metal or funk but there are times where i prefer other pickups. id be happy even if just seymour duncan and emg would agree but if everyone would agree that would be the ***** tits
